In our project 'Eco-Tourism in Tubarao' undertaken in 1997, as part of the our work, 24 archaeological sites were catalogued but no Rupestrian Art sites were found. We registered 12 sambaquis, 1 lithic station, 4 subterranean residences (3 linked by tunnel), 8 rock monuments and 1 shelter beneath a rock.

Grandiose discovery of rock art during the rising of the archeological potential of the Ecological Park Itagres. With an area of 100 ha, the park (in implantation) he/she has 90% of his/her territory hidden by the Atlantic forest and it will be a pole of cultural irradiation, with the employees' involvement, the community, universities and institutions of researches.
Grandiose not discovered by the size, but for his/her importance as instrument to help to unmask the meaning of some geometric symbols. It is that, intentionally, the rock art are recorded in rocky monuments, that, for his/her time, they are marks of solstices and equinoxes of an ancestral astronomical observatory.
They are three sites of rock art with one engraving eche.
The first, the about 150m of the observatory, the rock support is the mark that signals the winter solstice to the sunrise. The engraving is constituted by 2 parallel and oblique lines, done in a surface previously prepared so that the group of the lines, the surface curves and the rock supports seem a fat face, as the old representations of the sun. For the prehistoric people, the sun also had his/her spiritual and sacred side, because as donor of the life, a god was considered.
The lines, in front of the east, indicate the road of the sun from being born to the half day, in the case, the top of the terrestrial cap.

The second site, about 5m of the central stone of the astronomical observatory, it is constituted by a lozenge, that is recorded in the rock that marks the equinoxes of the observatory. As it is known, the lozenge is formed by 2 triangles similar with opposed vertexes, and the equinoxes, the division similar of the period of the day and night and also the middle of the road of the sun.

The third site, about 50m of the astronomical observatory, it is constituted by a triangle with the vertex down and it is engraved on a rock that marks the summer solstice at sunset. In Laguna, a triangle engraved in the rock with the vertex upward is marking the summer solstice in the sunrise.
As can see, stones that they mark solstices and equinoxes, indicate the meaning of their geometric symbols and also the relationship between rocky monuments and rock art.
The astronomical observatory was very moved, he/she had stones cut, broken, moved and even burning, but the base is there, with stones that mark solstices and equinoxes and other celestial events. He/she is projected for the future to reconstitute him, looking for to approximate of the original observatory, a relic, that for true miracle, he/she survived the destructive tide of our assault civilization.

The Ecological Park Itagres is being implanted and it is waited that inside of little time it is capable to receive visitors.
