Gaspar e Ilhota

GASPAR
In this municipality, around 40kms inland, a stone engraved with characters from an ancient language was found at a sambaqui 5,320 years old known as Sitio Hanemann in 1072. The stone features four lines of characters on one side with, on the right, a symbol reminiscent of the Greek letter Omega plus two small indentations common in artefacts found at sambaquis and other burial sites and, on the other side, six characters. The furrows or grooves of these characters are filled with rock-dust, sediment and other more distant elements carried on the wind, which shows that the work is very old. The stone is now to be found in Florianopolis at the Museum of Sambaqui Man (Museo do Homem do Sambaqui).

ILHOTA
In this municipality, on the Morro do Bau, we can see a site of Rupestrian Art carried out along different lines of design (non-geometric), formed by deep, rounded figures, upon a rock support of Bordeaux-coloured sandstone.
