of rock art and
rocky monuments
in SC
>> Garopaba
Of May to November of 2007, we developed the project
of the
Trail and Museum outdoors of the Stone of the Galleon,
with the objectives of to protect and to value the archeological
sites and
the environment. The trail with 3.108 m of extension,
will count with 4 museums outdoors and decks in the main ones
fishing of the shore lines,
and it will have catwalks and stairways
that will facilitate the access for the
whole course. Interlinked with the
trail, it will work the Museu Rupestrian and
the Center of Observation of
the Whales.
During the making of the project, we classified more 7 rock art sites in the municipal district, besides countless shelters under-rock, indigenous villages, marks and astronomical alignments and a spectacular rocky monument.
In the rock art, the innovation was the emergence of cupulas, usually isolated, in granític rocks, in the outskirts of shelters under-rock and of rocky monuments. Those cupulas are common in the coast, from the Bay of Babitonga to Laguna and they penetrate the interior for Tubarão, Gravatal and also Urubici, only that in sand rocks .
The discovery of the fantastic Sphinx or head of the great idol, with 9 m of height, was the great event of the season of researches, because it fomented the interest of the society and of the media.
This spectacular discovery of Keler Lucas, proves his theory of a magalithic society in the prehistory, that was completely extinguished of our current culture, for the inquisition to the paganism and the imposition of the new religion recently arrival, as well as also for the ownership of the lands. How to take ownership of an earth all demarcated by rocky monuments, artificial hills (shell mounts), signs in the stones (rock art) and astronomical observatories?
We would like to thank to the secretary of tourism Lúcio Silva and the director of events Zeno Castilhos, for the support and partnership to the project of the trail, that it resulted success at all for the results obtained already.
>> Gravatal - one newer municipal district linked to our map
Known internationally by their thermal waters, the recent discoveries of rock art and of rocky monuments, besides other archeological sites, all unpublished ones and without registrations in IPHAN, they show us that from 5.000 BP the municipal district is visited by prehistoric people that they lived here and in the neighborhoods. The great prominences are the rocky monuments or megalithics, with their put upon rocks, some with heads and human faces and an rock art, only in the State, constituted by a face sculpted in the middle of the surface of a rock.
We would like to thank the support and partnership of Turismo Marta's Secretary, without which nothing would have happened.

The rock art consists now of cupulas of the internal and external walls and the illustrations of 2 puppets that are inside of reentrances dug in the wall interns of the gallery. One of the puppets has a vulva. The puppets were made with the same technique used in a copy of the gallery n * 2 of the Skinned Hill, the one of the man above a pileta.
27 new pictures were added in the site, reaching the total of 337. Order the CD-ROM Arte Rupestre in Santa Catarina and you will be helping to sponsor our researches.
A warning to all:
Brazil's Federal laws 3.924/61 and 9.605/91
plus State law 228/55 hold local mayors responsible for any lapse in the care
and preservation of archaeological sites. Did you ever see Santa Catarina
mayor punished for the destruction of such sites – and hundreds have
been damaged – since these laws came into force? Strange, isn't it?
Especially given the number of public posts established to guard against the
non-observation of law. Such posts have extremely rarely been used to safeguard
our Rock Art sites.
React against this apathy. Such archaeological sites are officially decreed
the Patrimony of Humanity and belong to one and all. Use your citizenship
to demand that laws be abided by.
The past belongs to the future only if the present preserves it!
