New discoveries
of Rock Art in
Santa Catarina
>> Palhoça
- Beach of Pinheira :
Identified 2 rocky blooming with series
of cupulas; a lithic station with great circular
sharpeners and an astronomical mark.
>> Florianópolis

Pântano do Sul (Swamp of the South) : 2 marks of footprints
found in the cost line.

Praia dos Ingleses (Beach of English) : 2 series of cupulas and rocky monuments in the road that takes to the rock art.
- Island of the Mata Fome : Rocky monument with monkey face
(monkey head)
- Beach of Santinho (south) : Found 2 sitess of rock art and a rocky monument similar to an armchair. The team of ecoturismo of Santinho Resort Costão, led by biologist Ciro, they were the discoverers of the sites.
- Ponta do Gravatá : Identified a disk solar engraving in rocky monument and mark solsticial, similar to another of Laguna. And a rock with a man’s face.
>> Urubici
Unmasked the great face of the Stone of the Secret. The face was seen in 1984 by Keler Lucas and it had disappeared. It was ever since sought until that an information of photographer Orquisa, on a face that only appears after the 16:00, helped to kill the charade. Besides appearing after the 16:00, the face is only seen for few days of the year.
A gigantic stone, with more than 30 m of height, in the paving stone format, with 3 rectangular sides, has on the side of back a series of cupulas, and 3 form 2 eyes and a mouth of a small monkey.
Discovered more 4 great panels with cupulas and a rocky monument with cupulas.
They appeared more close 2 engravings of the great panel of rock art on Morro do Avencal.
A great hill if it transforms in the head of a gorilla at that time of the summer solstice, similar phenomenon the other existent ones inside of the culture of the megalitics.

>> Petrolândia
Found the rock art site visited by Priest Rohr in 1966. There is an engraving similar to another in the Arvoredo Island.
It is one more municipal district “linked” in our map with the rock art sites of the State of Santa Catarina.
>> Porto União
The historian Johnni Langer and his friend geographer Sérgio Santos, researchers of UNICS, found a rock block with cupulas and interlinked lines. Similar the other existent ones in Corumbá (MS) and in Galícia (Spain) it seems to have a ritual function.It is an important discovery, because it shows the great variety of the rock art in our State, a visited area and inhabited for different people in the prehistory.
>> Tubarão
The discovery of geometric symbols with astronomical functions and related with rocky monuments it supplies us a great key to unmask their meanings. They were also found traces of a prehistoric astronomical observatory. Everything this is protected and it is part of the archeological patrimony of the Ecological Park Itagres, in implantation phase.
>> Laguna
New discoveries of rock art add values to the prehistoric patrimony.
Rocks with cupulas, rocky monument with recorded triangle and a rock with a solar disk. It is treated of one more proof of the connection between rock art and rocky monuments, as we already verified in Florianópolis (Barra of the Pond, Tip of the Gravatá, Costão of Santinho, Island of Campeche), Urubici, and now, Tubarão.
We suits to remind that the rocky monuments are not recognise and they were never mentioned by the representatives of the official science. It is a feather, because their studies could develop for a superior landing.
Due to the increase of the acidity of the rains in the last 15 years, the surfaces of the rocks supports of rock art, were almost totally clean of a millenarian layer of dust and they appeared several engravings in some sites at Island of Campeche and other places. In the Santinho Beach 2 news sites and engravings in the panel that is protected by catwalk.

plus State law 228/55 hold local mayors responsible for any lapse in the care
and preservation of archaeological sites. Did you ever see Santa Catarina
mayor punished for the destruction of such sites – and hundreds have
been damaged – since these laws came into force? Strange, isn't it?
Especially given the number of public posts established to guard against the
non-observation of law. Such posts have extremely rarely been used to safeguard
our Rock Art sites.
React against this apathy. Such archaeological sites are officially decreed
the Patrimony of Humanity and belong to one and all. Use your citizenship
to demand that laws be abided by.
The past belongs to the future only if the present preserves it!
